I have WIFI DSL from a radio on my roof to a radio on a tower about three miles away. My roof radio has a modem, with a Ethernet port that then goes
to my router (4 port) and then to my Macs.

Sometimes the router will not allow me to connect at all to anything, e-mail or browser connection, but after some time or re booting the router and modem I can connect. Some times I will try to access a web page and it will
do nothing, but if I refresh the page I get instant access.

Sometimes I have to boot both the modem and router to gain access and just
using the modem does work bypassing the router.

I checked my settings on the router and they seem to be OK.

Ok.

You need to dig deeper to determine exactly what is failing and where. Take it step by step, hop by hop.

Verify that you have basic IP connectivity between your Mac and your Router by pinging the router. If that works, move one hop beyond -- ping your DSL service gateway. Also use traceroute (which is actually a successive series of pings) to trace a few more hops farther -- to see where things fail. Paste the results here if you want, for us to examine.

Once you see that you have basic IP connectivity out into the internet, you need to make sure you have a usable Domain Name Service. DNS is the gizmo that translates name, like www.google.com, to IP addresses. Try some raw lookups (from with the Network Utility). If they fail, trace to your assigned DNS. Try also name servers like 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2. Those are Verizon's; quite reliable.

Once you have reliable DNS, start poking out father - to your email server or a destination web server...

From your descriptions... My feeling is that you'll find intermittant or no connectivity thru that radio hop. If that's the case, you'll need to talk to your ISP to have them fix it.

HTH,
- Dan.

And after you poke father, don't forget to ping mother. Sorry Dan, couldn't resist. Excellent advice as usual.

Just a message from Doug...
