This LocalTalk Bridge software is working to make my arrangement of
using the 4/600 LocalTalk printer via the 7300 unexpectedly good -
perhaps I am easily surprised?
* File sharing can be off
* It is not necessary to touch the 7300 controls (except to start and
shutdown)
* It is not necessary to have a screen connected or turned on.
* The printer works from the 7300 controls (its keyboard and mouse)
also, this a big surprise to me: no need for AppleTalk to be set to
"Printer", it is on "Ethernet" and I guess the LT Bridge software
lets it know where the printer is...
I hardly need my fancily fitted out 7300 (lotsa hds, usb, ram, G3/4
upgrade cpu etc...). Must prepare a minimised 7300 with a 200 cpu I
have kicking about... This has given me thoughts: what about dusting
off a beaut iici I have sitting doing nothing (ah, forget if I have
an ethernet card for it around?)...
I have posted a small appreciation of everyone's efforts (as
promised) at http://www.dorayme.150m.com/jokes/twoIrishmen.html
( I will probably want a bit of file sharing as well at some stage if
only to access the zips attached to the older Powermacs, then I look
more closely at other instructions, e.g., Bruce's. In the meantime, I
like that there is less likely any slowdown when fs is off)
