Yes it a typical virus ploy in windows-- All the rage right now. It can come "empty" or it may come as a familiar address with a notice that it can't be downloaded or was an error in downloading, yada yada, and you have to go to your online mail box to read--ergo click the link.

If you look close there is probably a micro-mini-sized .gif or ,jpg image about 4 pixes by 4 pixels on the screen somewhere in the text stream (--the color can be set to "clear" so it might be hard to find . It will be between 26 and 32kb in actual size. Within it is the virus code hiding from your antivirus software. This method takes advantage of an exploitable vuneribility that can be hidden in image formats

Your junkmail Meister quarantined it as it should.

I am running 10.2.8 with mail 1.2.5 (v533) on a beige G4. Just today the following message popped up in my junk folder:

The message from <Unknown sender> concerning “<Unknown subject>” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.

The From and Subject in the list view of the mail box is blank, and when I view the message there is no header at all, even when I select show all headers. Also, the content does not change if I select Show Raw Source. I have also selected all text and pasted it into a new textedit document and nothing new shows up. All my mailboxes are pop and are Online.

I have seen 3-4 of these today, and this is the first time I have seen this. It has possibly corrupted my junk mail box (or it may be coincidence. I lost some messages in the Junk mailbox today (I leave mail there and it is not set to autodelete) that showed up in my regular inbox after I rebuilt all my mailboxes.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanks,
Len
