Listers,
I've recently been informed that OS 10.4 (and maybe 10.3)
perform "certain" maintenance operations if the computer is inactive for a "certain" period of time. News to me. Anybody shed some light on the issue?

Since 10.0, OS X has been set to perform numerous Unix-y maintenance tasks at 3AM. Use a program like MacJanitor <http://tinyurl.com/ 3esvu> or Onyx <http://tinyurl.com/4abor> or Cocktail <http:// tinyurl.com/cpnwb> to do them at your leisure.
