Um, it fails all over the place: that's the point. As noted, if you don't
think Apple wants to or needs to "catch up with" MSFT -- which is in a
completely different line of business -- then the licensing argument is
DOA.

If on the other hand, you want Apple to get out of the hardware business and
sell just an OS head to head against MSFT, who are pretty firmly entrenched,
I'm not sure what that gets you. How well was NeXT doing before Apple bought
them? You ever use it? Know anyone who did? Talk about marginalized . . .
