Buying Apple-branded RAM is an exercise in expensive futility.  So is playing 
around with anonymous RAM by trial & error.

Far better to visit Crucial's website

http://www.crucial.com (or http://www.crucial.com/uk for those on my side of 
the pond) - as their RAM is good with a lifetime guarantee, well-priced (i.e. 
very inexpensive) and very fast delivery.

I have no links to Crucial, other than as a satisfied customer over several 
years.
