Folks,

I've been having some external firewire 400 drive issues. The drives are OWC
Mercury Elite-AL Pro drives - I also have a ministack running off of Firewire
400 and while that has its own issues it does not present this problem. What
seems to happen is that when the drive sleeps, or is inactive for a while, it
takes an inordinate amount of time to wake. So, it slows the Mac (doesn't
matter which Mac, G4 Dual 1.25, new Imac etc) to a crawl if you try to start
using it, and if you shut down the Mac it hangs, and it also hangs upon startup
(grey screen) - it immediately boots corrected if you turn the drive off. It
happens with both Mercury Elite-AL Pro drives I own, and it doesn't matter
whether they are daisy chained or connected through a firewire hub. I'm using
these drives to back up my video, but I have to keep them disconnected most of
the time, apart from when I am actively using them. Its a bit frustrating, and
any input would be much
appreciated. I have run both drives through Disk Utility and Disk Warrior and
they pick up no problems.

Cheers

Chris
