In my Yikes!, Tiger 10.4.11, I have a Sonnet ATA/100 PCI card that I
have one 80GB Seagate linked to it. I don't have any drives off the
onboard, mobo IDE channel.

At initial Startup, after a opt-command-P-R, my screen flashes the
folder ? / Mac OS Icon, then finds the HD, and boots fine thereafter.

Subsequent Restarts appear to go straight to the drive after flashing
a one-line height rectangular, hardly readable, highlighted message.
Is this message just the address of the IDE channel being used?
something like pci;0:2 etc ... I can't see it all, but remember
something similar from using XPF on my PowerPC 8500.

Is this normal behavior booting off a PCI IDE card in a PCI Graphics,
when no other drive is on the mobo channel?

Would it be advantageous to use XPF just for the Startup phase?

I've been experimenting (uh-oh) ... and an Adaptec AUA-3020A Rev B,
USB2/FW400 card began acting up, requiring its removal. Maybe due to
using XPF ... maybe due to Adaptec.

I'm currently successfully using the Apple Startup after using XPF
with its Uninstall-ation, hoping the Boot Cache (name?) has been
replaced correctly. I replaced the Adaptec with a Sonnet Tango USB1/
FW400, and it is loading properly. Startup is after removing/
replacing the Battery.
