If your printer is Localtalk, or Apple Serial, you can connect it with/ without, depending on the printer, a Localtalk adapter to the printer port on the host Mac. You may need/want an Ethernet hub, or preferably, an Ethernet switch, to connect both the computer and the printer to. Some printers (e.g., Laserwriter Pro630) will need an AAUI to Ethernet adapter w/Ethernet cable, or an AAUI to Localtalk adapter if the printer (Laserwriter/Stylewriter/Imagewriter) is serial only. The computer can simply connect with a Apple Serial/Printer cable, if printer is Localtalk, or with an Ethernet cable to the hub/switch if Ethernet. Appletalk must be set active in the Control Panel, but the IP of the printer and computer are DHCP. Most Laserwriters are equipped with an AAUI port, which is much faster than Localtalk. Hope that helps. If not, here is a good overview of the possibilities: <http://www.atpm.com/network/printing/apple.htm> Ross --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
