No, not coincidence - BUG. Normally, we expect applications to be fairly self-contained, even beta tests. But that's not the case here. Instead of doing the script-trick we know and love, as used by the WebKit developers, Apple's Safari 4 Beta package is *destructive*. In addition to placing the new Safari 4 app in /Applications, it ALSO replaces the system-wide installation of the WebKit framework, in /System/Library/WebKit.framework. Because the known-good framework is replaced with the beta... Mail and other apps are now forced to use it also -- hence the problems viewing some messages. Now look at WebKit Nightly. WebKit.app is a *script* that tells the system to run /Applications/Safari.app, and point it to the WebKit.framework contained within WebKit.app. IOW, when you run the WebKit Nightly, is is using the Safari 4 beta application with the bleeding-edge nightly WebKit framework build. It is a BUG in that WebKit framework, as it interfaces with Safari 4, that is incorrectly giving that error message. - Dan. -- - Psychoceramic Emeritus; South Jersey, USA, Earth --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
