My first Mac was a 1987 SE, I ALWAYS download my email to the machine (why trust someone else's server to archive your email, and besides, webmail is SO slow compared to it being on the machine itself). Interesting comment on your modem, I had (and I think it's still in the closet if anyone wants to buy a vintage modem) the 300 baud modem, I don't remember any Apple ones from that era being ones you had to put the phone in. I did see one in War Games though. <G> For years I'd shut my machine down at night as I was able to collect my email at work. Once I couldn't do that anymore I kept it on for days especially in the winter. Once it got hot I'd shut it down again when I wasn't using it. I think what you have misunderstood is that it's not good to preview messages you've downloaded. This was an issue when there were macro viruses floating around. Macs are just not as susceptible to viruses as PCs are but being careful is always a good thing. My desktop is a G4 FW800, also with Mirrored Drive Doors.
