B&W G3s (Smurfs) do not sleep. They do sleep the monitor but the
computer doesn't sleep so it keeps using the same amount of power. The
monitor does account for about half the power so sleeping it does save a
fair amount.

Note that G3 iMacs and G4 Towers in sleep still draw a fair amount of
power, about 1/4 that of when awake.

Intel iMacs draw as much power (around 1W) whether asleep or off.

This is based on actual measurements of power drawn.

None of this is going to be noticeable on your electric bill, the
computer being on or not gets lost in the noise.
