Does anyone have suggestions on how to get past this roadblock

Download a different browser. For freeware browsers, the most modern available is the Wamcom 1.3.1 Mozilla from 2003:

Ack and thanks.

To fully upgrade to 9.2.2 you need to do each increment separately, going 9.1, 9.2.1, and finally 9.2.2. See:

A B&W with a G4 should really be max'd out RAM with a Radeon video card running Tiger 10.4.11 with an OS X browser. With MacOS 9.x ALL the browsers are so antiquated that you'll never have a good experience on modern websites. You've got to upgrade this Mac ASAP or live with the bad consequences.

A rescue G4, with one slot of memory populated, used by a senior who is comfortable using MacOS 9 for drawing, writing her journal and downloading her camera and mp3 player. She shows no interest in the Net, using a Facebook account etc, so she doesn't miss having a good browser. I'll get classilla and mozilla as suggested, though. her tastes may change.

I was given an off-list cluebat on getting the 9.0.4 --> 9.2.2 upgraders from the Apple site,
and they ran successfully. Two-Person Happy Dance!

cluebat: the download links on the -ja pages work.
