It could be that the monitor is at fault. And that this fault has nothing to do with the keyboard/password issue of yours. It is rare, but such things happen – sometimes when you expect it least. Have you checked the monitor with another computer? I had it once that the connector of the graphics card was unfirm – or was it the one on the VGA cable? Don't remember, but it worked with one computer, whereas it didn't with the other. Only this one monitor.
