True. On my G3 B&W I didn't apply any paste, I use it at work where it is running all day sometimes (up to 10 hours) without any signs of overheating. That Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is not that fast with a 350-MHz-G3 is something one has to live with. Mac OS 8.6 is quite fast though (I tried it, but rarely use it). There are only the case fan and the PSU fan to transport the heat out of the case. I doubt that a thermal paste does that much of a difference. But, you're right: it doesn't hurt either.
