>From my experience, there is no logical explanation to that strange behaviour. I once had a USB flash drive that used to work a couple of times with my USB hub, but all out of a sudden it just stopped being even recognized by Mac OS X (Tiger) when plugged into the hub – but still worked fine when plugged directly into the USB 2.0 PCI expansion card, or the integrated USB hub of the Apple Pro keyboard (USB 1.1 only). I formated the flash drive once (actually, a few weeks ago, out of necessity) and since that it is working again from the hub. ?????? I just don't get it. But this is what happened. My other USB devices (WD external HDD, other USB flash drive, USB DVD-RW drive) don't have these issues and always work(ed) with this particular hub. Hence my conclusion: your drive is most likely NOT failing. It is simply a compatibility issue when certain USB devices (controller – hub – drive) are not 100% working together. That's what I make of it. I know this doesn't help, but it may help to “understand”.
