On my dual 2.7 here, the only external light that's on when running is
the one near the power switch. I don't see any lights around the
optical drive. Which light is it that is always on for you on your dual
2.7 machines? Somewhere inside the machine?

I have a G5 2.7 DP, and the red optical light is always on.
But I got it used, so I don't know if this is the default.

The audio output works fine, thou.
Both internal speaker, rear audio port (3,5mm), and front audio port.

   That red light is normal.

Can anybody else "chime" in here on the red light optical audio port?
Always lit up?

I would reset the CUDA switch near the RAM slots on the bottom of the logic board. Be sure to disconnect all cables before doing this also remove PRAM battery.

I did bite the bullet, and reset the PMU. The reset made difference,
so no internal speaker and thus no chime on startup.
Other ideas? Anybody know which kext is in control of the optical
audio port?
