No. They run the gamut from plain tray-loading CD-roms to slot-loading 
DVD+-RW/DL RW mechanisms, not surprising for a computer that's had 5 complete 
redesigns and 23 official models over the years...

the specifications for the various models.

If you have a specific model you need info on ask here. Basically the earliest 
G3 iMacs and the G4 iMacs used tray-loading ATA devices, later model G3 imacs 
used a slot loading device of some sort (I've never actually seen one, so I'm 
not sure about the form factor, but I'll wager it's a slip laptop-style model, 
I've never seen a half-height-slot loading optical drive) and all the rest use 
laptop style  slot loading devices, ATA and SATA, again, I'm not sure when they 
did that transition.

Specific drive model support varies, depending on OS; OS X 10.4 or later 
supports any standard drive that physically fits.
