That was weird, i posted a reply yesterday and it never got posted.
anyhow here goes:

The last part of my serial is MMA and according to that site you
posted, it looks like my model is the dual proc 1.0 (not the FW800).
Although it does have 2 firewire ports, i'm not sure what the
differences are. it has only one cpu so i'm assuming when they say
dual proc, they mean dual core.

I picked up 4 sticks of 512mb ddr1 pc2700 yesterday from a company
that recycles old electronic stuff(computers/washers/tvs)
Also picked up 2 scsi 10000rpm 147gb hd's as well. Everything was $30
but i'm not sure the hd's work. If anyone in the GreaterTorontoArea
looking for memory, you could send me an email and i'll forward the
company info.
Hoping to use these hard drives as the Mac has a pci scsi adapter card
installed, although upon closer inspection it looks like the scsi
connection is on the outside so it might be for a scanner or
something.

So with the proper memory the system boots up fine and i'm able to get
to main os. I believe the os installed is 10.2.
I do have one problem with the system though.
When I shut the Mac down from the os, it does not turn on when I press
the power button, I have to unplug the power cord from the back and
reattach, then it powers on.
Any suggestions I may try, I'm afraid it might be a power supply
problem.

Right now i'm trying to use a regular usb keyboard and I can't figure
out the option key, some sites say to use the windows button but it
doesn't seem to work with my keyboards (i've tried 3)
Oh, I was trying to clear the PRAM, i've tried (c), tried (CROP), but
never got the 2 chimes so i'm not sure the keyboards can use the
command key.

How cool is the case design on these G4's, one lever opens the whole
tower.
I know this is an old case but even todays pc cases aren't so user
friendly.

Thanks for your help guys - hope this message goes through
