I have searched Google and no joy. I can print from 10.4.11 on

has the driver stashed away and could sent it -- or has a download
link. Any suggestions?
Are you certain there were MacOS drivers? MacOS 9.2.2 was released in
2001, and this LaserJet 5100 was released in June 2002 when OS X
10.1.5 was the current release software for Macs.
The HP article titled "HP LaserJet 5100 Family Printers - Upgrading
the Firmware" says there is a MacOS firmware update tool that only
works in OS 9, which implies there were OS 9 drivers. You should check
the firmware version of your LaserJet because this could be the
problem why your printer isn't printing your files correctly in OS X
or Classic:

It says the current firmware for LJ5100 is version MB8.23 :

The drivers here might work after making sure the firmware is latest:
<ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/software/ljlegacyen.hqx>
You should be able to view all these drivers in OS X by
Finder>Go>Connect to Server then add ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/.
