You didn't say, but I'm guessing it's a 17" iMac. That particular form factor is notorious for LCD failure, which begins with one row of stuck pixels and progresses to the point where there are so many rows they can't be counted, and often whole chunks of white screen. In other words, your LCD is headed southward like untold numbers of others. If it's a 20" iMac, it could be the video card or the LCD, but more likely the LCD if the external monitor's OK. Think about how many times you've seen a LEM Swap member looking for a good LCD for a 17" Intel iMac, then check the going price for a used one on eBay (@$200), if you doubt me.
