Yes, but that is a bit of a different situation there. I don't
remember all the specifics, but as I recall it is something of a
landmark case regarding trademarks and copyrights. If I remember
correctly what happened is the World Wildlife Fund wanted to use the
letters WWF on t-shirts, hats, publications, and other things to do
with the Wildlife Fund and the World Wrestling Federation told them
that WWF was their trademark. Rather than take it sitting down the
Wildlife Fund took the World Wrestling Federation to court, and in the
end the court decided that neither side could copyright or trademark
an abbreviation. Rather than continue hostilities the World Wrestling
Federation changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment and re
branded all their merchandize with the letters WWE which could not be
confused with the World Wildlife Fund.
