Hi Nicol, There is a saying here in the USA, " you bit the big one," which is a way of saying you died or was killed in a big or spectacular way. It is commonly used in our books, tv shows, and even some songs use it that way. An example is there is a Christian rock band called News Boys who made a silly song called Breakfast in Hell.They said something like "when the toast is burned, and the milkh has turned, and Captain crunch waves fairwell. When the big one finds you may this song remind you there is no breakfast in hell." Well, they meant by the big one you died, and went to hell, and the rest of it is self-explanitory.
