charles while I aggree with you, firstly the big companies couldn't give a hoot about us. Thats why we probably get away with the semi alegal sound usage we get away with especially in free games.
Most don't know about the disabled or don't give a frog about it.
The smaller devs unless they have an interest or the cash and a lot probably don't either really can't fund such a small market such as the disabled.
It all depends on what level the game is done for.
A heavily text oritentated game like eamon or an rpg writen in a flashy graphic window could be made accessable at little cost.
A huge game with loads doing it could cost a bit more.
One way I think we can get over this is to have people that can make frontends and either get permition to modify game sources or have games with the ability of modding. Since a lot of games have downloadable content or dlc then there is a possability the game can be hacked / modded in fact the engines to mod are either included free or at low cost to mod. Most games for the pc I know of at least a few maybe even more then half of them are moddable there is not really many closed games with no modding avalible.
Ofcause inaccessable menus are another thing and thats only pc related.
in the smart phones like i phone or android its another kettle of fish with development programs quite pricy so I hear.
Even then its not a lost cause.
the web, flash and the cloud is really getting traction, games that can be played whenevver and where ever the user wishes are becoming more and more desireable. Finally there are consoles, while ms may allow some work with their xna framework, though you have to give them your rights to run the games its still possible though xna is not blind friendly.
I am not sure about nentendo or soni but there is a lot of buts there.
It may never be that the real big shakers see potentual in us maybe a few smaller devs at a time who knows.
I have seen a change from blind games.
While the audiogames stuff has stayed quite static and stable for a while I have seen a lot more smaller games and bigger text rpgs out there as well as stratogy games.

I would also let those developers who refuse to even consider game modification for the handicapped know that, not only will you not support them, but that you will let other handicapped gamers know why you are not supporting them. If possible, get some figures on how many handicapped gamers this developer won't get money from to show what a loss of potential revenue their ignorance of a market share they are blatantly refusing to receive.

To be honest more people mailing them won't make much difference and might even irritate them. I would recommend you try notifying them of the work A sharp have done and the podcast made by the developer of A Dark Room on accessibility modifications and how easy those are to add, sinse many sighted developers believe that access in their games means a complete redesign where for Ios at least it often can be done more easily.

If however they have said not, odds are they won't change their minds, indeed I'm surprised you got a reply rather than the usual simple ignoring.

I'd recommend just changing games and supporting developers who do care about access sinse unless it was a legal requirement some developers just wont' do it, and your better off expending your efforts on those who will.

I had a similar experience earlier with starbase orion, and would now urge everyone who is interested in scifi stratogy on the Iphone to go and buy startraders elite instead of wasting time with the scumbag who makes starbase orion and has flat out refused to add access.

All the best,

Dark.develoeprs

Subject: [Audyssey] Emailing social point

Hi was just wondering if this list would be interested in helping me get social point to make Monsters legends and Dragon city accessible amongst some of their other games that they make. I downloaded both games the other day and found out that they're somewhat accessible but you still can't get past the beginning tutorials. I emailed them and ask them if they would be willing to make their games accessible and they told me that that was not a path that they were thinking about going down in the near future so I was going to see if I could get more people to email them. It would actually be nice to be able to play a game everybody else on my Facebook page plays.
