If you mean a link to the podcast where the creator of Dark room talks about
access in the game, you can hear it on
http://www.appcessible.net/talking-apps-podcast-episode-2-amir-rajan/
actually I'd recommend having a listen anyway, the story of the developers
decision to make the game is a very interesting one.
Regarding getting some of the games with larger player bases accessible,
well the problem as I said is that generally as the saying goes the bigger
the ant hill the bigger the stink. This is why the storm8 games like
vampires live have had no fix to make the id system accessible, and why
haypy monster has had no fixes for the chaotic interface or very random
lables, sinse while not made by mainstream developers the companies are
pretty big and it's not generally possible to individually talk to the
developers.
Of course this isn't to say it's entirely impossible. There are cases where
the game is mostly accessible but requires say some labeled images where
even larger indi companies have been helpful. Two particularly good
examples of this are Kingdom of loathing and torn city. Both are pretty big
games, ---- big enough to make the newspapers and be reported in innumerable
other media, but because they're text based browser mmorpgs, the access
basically involved correct image lables and in the case of Torn city, an
audio capture (and this one is actually perfectly understandable).
So, it's certainly worth a try, albeit I tend to think your better off with
companies where you can actually speak to the developers themselves, like
trees brothers who make startraders elite.
As regards how, well the first thing is be extra polite, considder it a
formal letter that you are writing to a company. As such use any correct
titles or information you can. I for example always sign my letters "Dr.
Luke hewitt, aka dark, audiogames.net admin" not merely "beware the grue
Dark"
. Make sure you clearly state what access fixes you want, eg, please leable
the equipment buttons, and lastly don't bug developers. I can think of at
least one case where a developer was highly interested in access and a
certain person basically mailed them every day asking for fixes to be made.
Hth and good luck.
All the best,
Dark.

Dark how would I go about getting this link because what I think I'm going
to do is send the developer this link is a reply to the email that they
sent me. I want to know how to do this right because I would like to get
some games that more than just a few people play accessible. Games like
LordsKnights and Solara are fine but it just doesn't seem like they have
the player base that some of these other games do.

Hi Charlse.
Well this is why I believe independent developers are worth more in
access terms than mainstream ones, sinse ten thousand sales is less than
peanuts to the fat cat coorporations like capcom, microsoft or namco, but
a great help to an indi developer, although there are some pretty big
indi companies even so like the creators of haypy monster which has also
not recieved any access fixes and is a pain in the arse to play, albeit
it is vaguely playable with work and interpretation.
All the best,
Dark.

If I could get even 10,000 sales through a minimal expense of time and
effort, such as in the case of an iPhone app, I'd do it if I knew about
it through a friendly source such as a knowledgeable blind person who
gave good suggestions on how to increase my customer base. This would
be for only 1 game of possibly several, and the results would only
magnify.

Well unfortunately the share isn't enough markit wise sinse there just
aren't too many people with disabilities, which is indeed why the
scumbags in the mainstream gaming industry haven't made games
accessible in the first place and short of a government order probably
won't.
I would however urge everyone to give developers who are utterly
unresponsive to access suggestions as many bad ratings on their games
as possible. I'm only sorry you need to buy the games first sinse I
would love to give starbase orion zero stars and write a review telling
everyone who looks on the ap store what an utter git the developer is..
All the best,
dark.

I would also let those developers who refuse to even consider game
modification for the handicapped know that, not only will you not
support them, but that you will let other handicapped gamers know why
you are not supporting them. If possible, get some figures on how
many handicapped gamers this developer won't get money from to show
what a loss of potential revenue their ignorance of a market share
they are blatantly refusing to receive.

To be honest more people mailing them won't make much difference and
might even irritate them. I would recommend you try notifying them of
the work A sharp have done and the podcast made by the developer of A
Dark Room on accessibility modifications and how easy those are to
add, sinse many sighted developers believe that access in their games
means a complete redesign where for Ios at least it often can be done
more easily.
If however they have said not, odds are they won't change their
minds, indeed I'm surprised you got a reply rather than the usual
simple ignoring.
I'd recommend just changing games and supporting developers who do
care about access sinse unless it was a legal requirement some
developers just wont' do it, and your better off expending your
efforts on those who will.
I had a similar experience earlier with starbase orion, and would now
urge everyone who is interested in scifi stratogy on the Iphone to go
and buy startraders elite instead of wasting time with the scumbag
who makes starbase orion and has flat out refused to add access.
All the best,

Subject: [Audyssey] Emailing social point
Hi was just wondering if this list would be interested in helping me
get social point to make Monsters legends and Dragon city accessible
amongst some of their other games that they make. I downloaded both
games the other day and found out that they're somewhat accessible
but you still can't get past the beginning tutorials. I emailed them
and ask them if they would be willing to make their games accessible
and they told me that that was not a path that they were thinking
about going down in the near future so I was going to see if I could
get more people to email them. It would actually be nice to be able
to play a game everybody else on my Facebook page plays.
