A number of games for the iDevices start out with a training level in which you learn what to listen for and how to turn and walk or run or jump in order to get to the desired objects.

I like how the levels that come with Lone Wolf are designed. In level 1, you begin using the tools of the game to detect, aim, and destroy targets. In level 2, they start shooting back, and you first encounter mines and how to deal with them. First, read and learn the user's manual to know the keystrokes you are going to use. Each progressive level gets more difficult and you encounter new challenges and, hopefully, you use the skills acquired in previous levels. You build your skills as you progress through the 17 levels.

Hi Bryan,

Perhaps so. Since he or she is going to get asked how to play it
anyway he or she might as well just not supply a manual and tell the
end users since nobody reads them from now on no manuals or other
documentation will be supplied.

In all seriousness this is what mainstream companies and indie
developers are doing. Instead of manuals they now supply in game help
tips and instructions in game so people can learn as they go. They
often have a training level which tells the gamer which keys do what,
talk through them through basic mechanics, which takes ample time to
create but apparently is more useful than manuals.

Cheers!

And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles,
or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon, see if I
don't!
