Hi bryan, I've had a similar experience many times wondering why the ship least likely to survive was the one which actually managed to live the longest in a conflict. I think our psychi compells us to put extra effort into protecting that damaged ship, and in the process a ship which would have otherwise made it out alive gets killed saving the damaged ship.
