That is true. ESP's handling of pre-orders is definitly not normal. My 
new pre-order program for 2008 is based on Microsoft's pre-order polacy. 
Where by if you pre-order a product or have a subscription with them you 
can get test releases and full product upgrades for a discount off the 
actual price of the final release.
Actually, now that I think of it Microsoft's polacy is not all that much 
different than the Jaws SMA. An SMA is nothing more than the option to 
pre-order a certain quantity of products or upgrades at a reasonable 
discount. If three upgrades cost $300 and you buy the SMA you may get 
those upgrades for $150 which is half off the price. The only difference 
is you may have to wait for months or years to cash in those discounts.
Pre-ordering is usually not a bad thing. I just don't think James North 
was a very good business man. He was a great programmer, but bad at 
following industry trends on handling pre-orders and things like that.
