Well, it's not exactly unheard of. I have to agree it would make more sense if you were using a projectile, but if it was a sword, theoretically it would be unlimitted. Like in Onimusha or Dynasty warriors, you can use your sword as many times as you want, but the special attack is done by filling up a certain bar.
