Well maybe there could be whetting stones or whatever that you could find and use to restore your dulled blades. That way you wouldn't just have to collect new swords. I mean realistically a warrior's going to have a means of sharpening his weapon. He might have a backup option in case it breaks but he's probably not going to be carrying around multiple swords of the same type. That would be cumbersome to say the least.
