Hi Lucas,
Good question. At this point probably not. At this point I am actually
thinking about using the pharaoh's mummy as the boss. Since the pharaohs
were believed to be godlike in ancient Egyptian beliefs it stands to
reason I could give the undead pharaoh some godlike powers without
making him impossible to defeat. which is the problem with full blown
gods and goddesses. A full blown god or goddess would simply be too
powerful to beat in a human vs god battle.
This was well illustrated in Tomb Raider the Last Revelation. In the
Last Revelation the god, Set, is accidentally released from his tomb by
Lara Croft when she removes the Amulet of Horus from Set's tomb in level
4. She only finds out after removing it that the person who removes the
amulet must rebind Set, and imprison him in his tomb. Which Lara finds
out is way harder than she bargoned for. On the boss level if you try
and fight Set in a one on one battle you simply can not win. he can't be
killed and he can fry Lara Croft with lightning bolts he casts from his
hands. The only way to rebind Set is to find a hidden chamber in the
temple where you have to place the amulet of Horus in a slot in the
wall. Once you do that the entire Egyptian temple begins crumbling to
the ground. Then, the game goes to perhaps the most hated cutscene of
all time for Tomb Raider fans.
In the final cutscene in the Last Revelation Lara Croft begins running
towards the temple exit, limping, and looking badly injured. Just as she
is about to reach the doorway the ceeling falls in knocking her
backwards. She just about reaches the door again when the floor falls in
leaving her hanging on a broken ledge. Von Croy appears in the door way
and begs her to take his hand so he can pull her to safety. As Lara
reaches for Von Croy's hand the ledge gives way and Lara Croft falls to
her death. Von Croy rushes out of the temple and turns around to see it
crumble to the ground. The end of our favorite action hero.
Obviously, Core Design and Edos got so much end user hate mail, angry
rsponces, and complaints about the end of TRLR that in Angel Of Darkness
the very first cutscene has Lara Croft confronting Von Croy in Paris.
Von Croy is surprised she is alive, and they made up some completely
fictional story that she escaped at the last second. Which was
absolutely not how it happened. The cutscene showed her falling to her
death, and she could nnot have survived that fall. However, the fiction
stuck and Tmost Tomb Raider fans just let the altered history stand.
Anyway, my point being here that a god like set is probably too powerful
for Angela Summers to beat in a one on one fight. In Last Revelation
Lara has to find several magical items like the Amulet of Horus, Armour
of Horus, etc just to challenge Set, but in the end the Amulet itself is
the key to rebinding Set in the tomb. Which only can happen if you bury
him inside the temple. I have no desire to revisit the TRLR style
battle/ending. Especially, since this is part 1 of a Tomb Hunter game
series of games.
