while there are certainly games missing from it, the audiogames.net database
is being updated at the moment, and one thing you can do there is search for
audiogames by license type.
just go to www.audiogames.net and look under the "search archive" link, then
select "freeware" as the license.
You could also have a look at the games listed under "donation" sas those
are games that are quite free to play in full form, but accept player
donations to keep the games running and occasionally offer in game bonuses.
