You might also have a look at entombed. You can find it via the audiogames.net page bearing its name. It is being designed in the style of rogue-like games and is akin to the early roleplaying games you referenced earlier. Note, though, that it is still in alpha so it is very conceptual at this point.

I'd call Kingdom of Loathing, planet gambro and the KoL spinoffs (twilight heroes, soul raver) turn based. They're pretty solid RPG's all in their own right, each has a storyline sidequests to complete, and KoL and Planet Gambro especially have well-fleshed out battle systems. http://www.kingdomofloathing.com http://www.twilightheroes.com http://two.planetgambro.com/login.php All of them are worth a look in my opinion, unless you're looking for a serious RPG, in which case good luck. There seems to be this thing going around with RPG's either being solid number crunching, or for some reason well fleshed out mechanically, but humor based rather than serious. Anyway, enjoy. -------------------------------------------------- From: "dark" <d...@xgam.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 11:29 AM To: "Gamers Discussion list" <gamers@audyssey.org> Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Looking for a turn-based game > Hi. > > There is nothing as yet turn based, but I'd strongly advise you to start > looking into gamebooks sinse they can probably fulfill your desires > nicely. > > They're single player, and they finish and some have truly fantastic > stories and combat system. > > In particular I'd recommend The chronicles of arborell > http://www.arborell.com/ > > The Project.aon site (which hosts the Lone wolf series), found at > http://www.projectaon.org/new.htm and the fighting fantasy project found > at http://www.ffproject.com/ > > > Some require you to roll your own dice, but this is easy enough using the > gma dice program. > > Hth. > > Beware the grue! > > dark. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "James Aybar" <jamesay...@yahoo.com> > To: <gamers@audyssey.org> > Sent: Tuesday, June 16, 2009 6:36 AM > Subject: [Audyssey] Looking for a turn-based game > > >> Hi, >> I got upset with sryth for the last time today. >> I want to play something similar but I hate that damn die. >> Even with my luck at 19 I've gotten too many ones (at times two in a >> row). >> And, I play Dentin MUD but I feel like I'm not getting anywhere with it. >> A game that could actually end would be best. >> And, even better if it has a party with class selection. >> It's too bad Dragon Warrior III or Final fantasy are not accessible. >> Even something like Pokemon would be nice. >> Any hel p is greatly appreciated. >> Thanks >> >> >> >> >> >> --- >> Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org >> If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to >> gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. >> You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at >> http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. >> All messages are archived and can be searched and read at >> http://www.mail-archive.com/gam...@audyssey.org. >> If you have any questions or concerns regarding the management of the >> list, >> please send E-mail to gamers-ow...@audyssey.org. >> > > > --- > Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org > If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to > gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. > You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at > http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. > All messages are archived and can be searched and read at > http://www.mail-archive.com/gam...@audyssey.org. > If you have any questions or concerns regarding the management of the > list, > please send E-mail to gamers-ow...@audyssey.org. > --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
