Ok, you might also want to toggle switching between only diagonal, or clean horizontal/vertical movements as such, but not necessarily too on-the-fly as such - as in, I know I'll be concentrating on this for now, so this would suit me best for now, etc.

Phil is exactly right. Of course the same idea could also allow the mouse to automatically lock into the diagonal directions also. Up+left, Down+left, Up+right, and Down+right.
