Hi Desiree,

Good point. I understand where you are coming from, and for the most part you are write.

When learning to use an iPad or iPhone with a touchscreen its not just learning iOS, but a totally new and different input method than we are use to which makes it more difficult. That's a totally different experience than going from say Windows XP to Mac OS or Linux for that matter.

For example, if a person installs Ubuntu Linux he or she will discover many of the commands they know are similar. Use control+c to copy to the clipboard, use control+v to paste, use control+z to undo an action, use control+a to select all, control+f for find, etc. As a result the similarity in keyboard commands will help aid or speed up the transition from Windows to Linux. Not so with an iPhone which is a completely alien concept from the outset. So its for that reason I'm not at all surprised to find some people have trouble making the transition.

Cheers!

Hi,
But this goes back to what I was saying, not only do you have to learn
a new set of commands and a new operating system, but a completely new
way to interact with a device as well. There's not only the operating
system to learn, which is difficult in itself, but all this stuff like
when to flick, shake the phone, tapping, typing on the on-screen
keyboard, and probably many other gestures that I'm unaware of since I
gave up my IPhone in a few days. It seems to me that just learning the
Mac operating system would be an achievable goal. After all, you have
a keyboard in front of you, and though the commands are different, you
at least have a point of reference because you're at least familiar
with the input method, and therefore commands will take shape.
For example, the first note taker I ever had was a Braille Lite 40.
When I moved on to a Braille Note, though it did many different
things, space with o still took me to the options menu, space with i
was for insert, space with e was for exit, etc. Therefore, in learning
a new operating system, I'm sure there is much overlap of commands and
features. With an IPhone or other touch screen device, you have no
choice but to adapt not only to the new set of commands but also a
completely new way of doing them. That was overwhelming to me. I'm not
the kind of person who asks for help willingly, especially not when I
knew I would probably have to ask questions every 2 seconds, lol.
