FWIW, the ASDF-Install-Tester tries to do some of this. It (the AIT)  
is in limbo at the moment awaiting some of my time. I expect some  
time to actually arrive (via Fed Ex) in the next few weeks -- but you  
know how finicky those time shares can be (sorry, it's late).
