I'm sure that an arrangement can be found to work with a foot
treadle. The legs have the biggest muscles, but to use them
effectively, an alternate support such as a bicycle seat is often
needed, and as usual, impedance must be matched and ergonomics
considered. Here's a recent invention just using a heavy, hinged
maul and a support spring to make a splitting operation far easier:

weight an initial lift. The hand is often more subtle than the leg
linkages we build. If the legs are needed for moving during
material handling, a single treadle with a low initial "gear ratio"
is good. If the feeding involves a lot of side to side motion, a big
rocker might harmonize with that.

could also use a crank and fly wheel. It's amazing what you can
find quite usable in scrap yards.

grommet
