I recall selling out Florida Field in 1979 when we were 0-10-1. I have trouble
believing that, but for the UAA, we would not have the same football revenue.

I recall the stadium being substantially smaller in 1979, and seeing quite a
few empty seats during the Zook years. Nike and other "suppliers" (read:
advertisers) can pick and choose where to spend their $$$, and I'll bet they
pump more into championship teams than they do into winless ones. Like it or
not, we're in an "arms race" with all of the other top football programs, and
if we want to be able to continue to be one of the few schools whose athletic
programs are a source of funds to the university rather than a drain on them,
then I have no problem "investing" in the goosse that lays the golden egg. And
you'd better believe a big part of that is keeping well heeled boosters happy -
the type of folks that likely proposed 9as well as funded) these statues.
