Hmmm... well, we were probably at The Lamplighter at the same time more than once. I turned 18 in 1973, and that's when 18 was the age of majority. The Lamplighter was my regular hangout on Fridays and Saturdays... and usually a couple of days during the week, too. I spent most of my time on the dance floor. That was where I learned a valuable life lesson: if you're dancing, don't try to rehydrate with alcohol. Drink water after you start dancing or you might find yourself falling onto the bandstand. What was the name of that band that played there all the time back then? They were more or less the house band and covered Top 40 songs. Oh... RIFF? I think that was it.
We also hung out at a little pub west <?> of The Lamplighter, also on 10th Ave. The King's Table, owned by the McMillan family. Their son Gregg and some of his friends had a band that played there for a long time - The Dixie Desperadoes. Gregg and Jeff Sims were friends of my siblings and me so we had to go support the local boys. They were actually pretty good, and I think all of them are still playing music. Jeff owns a music store in G'ville. I just caught up with them on Facebook not too long ago! :-) Oops, rambling and reminiscing while waiting for the dryer to buzz this beautiful Friday afternoon in Florida...
