Hi Baytiger! Try uninstalling Gears first by following the instructions here: http://gears.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79848
After you've uninstalled it, it may be recommendable to restart or just log out of your computer user account and then back in, and try to reinstall it from http://gears.google.com - I uninstalled gears fully before I tried downloading it again from the latest official release, that may be why it's working for me and not for you.
