I'm no expert, but I have a trio of S.sthenodactylus. Now that room
temps are down around 65F (18C) mine spend a lot of time basking under
a light bulb during the day. In summer, I almost never saw them before
dark. They still do most of their hunting in the dark, however.
Mine will eat mealworms reluctantly, and waxworms eagerly, especially if
the worms move actively.
If you've had yours for a while, and they are reasonably plump, maybe they
are slowing down for the winter? I think most of the ones in the hobby
originate from the northern Sinai desert, which has definite seasons, and
is at a latitude similar to southern California. Do they look healthy or
are they thin and weak? I think they are a bit on the pudgy side when they
are healthy.
If any of the above is bad advice, I hope the more knowledgable will
correct me!
