Help! my juvenile grandis is AWOL. I hate to admit that I'm not *exactly*
sure how long he's been missing since he is still small enough to hide
effectively in the foliage in his tank, so it was only after a few days of
not sign of him that I was convinced of his absence. What kind of places
have ya'll found truant Phelsuma? What do you think his chances of survival
are? The temps in my room average 65-68F this time of year, though my
thermometers show a drop to 55 during last nights inexplicable power outage.
He is about 4-5 inches. Do you find they want to hang around other cages
(for heat)? What about food? I don't have many escapee crix running around
during the winter?
Obviously I'm quite worried about him! Do you think a dish of baby food
might attract him?
 THANKS!
 Camille

Hi-
I once had an awol cepediana. I let the house get quite cold, and then placed
a heat lamp facing a wall near where she was last seen. I had to get up 3 or
4 times that night to check, but sure enough about 4:30am there she was
basking on the wall.
A quick swipe with the fish net and we were soon both sleeping in our beds.

As for hiding places, you stand a better chance of having IT walk out across
the wall than YOU actually finding it in hiding. I had one that would sidle
around the corner, or the tv, or the bamboo, perfectly staying out of sight
while watching me all the time. They not only escape, some actively hide and
evade you. (others, it seems, have no clue where to go next and are very
happy just to get put back in their cage.)

Baby food might work, at least you can see if the grandis is still around. (
The babyfood will have "tongueprints")
Good Luck
And keep the fish net handy!
Jason

Hmmm.... how do I know it was watching me while I couldn't see it?
Thats another story, but boy I felt real dumb. Kinda felt it was toying with
me.
