I've got a question for those on the list, if a site was found that used
>pictures of your animals, but only in conjunction with accurate and
>relevant care information(no animal sales), would you take any action? TC

I don't know if I would take legal action, but I would definitely contact
the owner of the site and tell them that they should ask permission before
using my work. There was a debate about this on the Slither list a few
years back. One member was advertising his web page, and another member
found one of his photographs was used on this web site without his
permission. He mentioned that one of his photos was used without
permission, and he asked that it be removed. Many people thought he was
terrible for doing this. I personally think it was inconsiderate (and
illegal) for the site owner to use the photographers work without asking. I
know for a fact that this photographer would have been more than happy to
allow the person to use the photo for educational purposes, if they had
just asked for permission.
What is really sad is most people doing it do not even think they are
doing anything wrong. My husband created the logo for the NCHS. One of the
vets I work with was doing a quilt for a wildlife rescue groups fund
raiser. On her desk I found an exact replica of the Western skink from the
NCHS Logo, on a quilt square. I don't think she realized what trouble she
could have gotten her club into. My husband was not happy and gave her a
warning but the NCHS also had rights to that logo. To make matters worse
her husband is a graphic artist. He took over the NCHS editors position
after I retired, and I am sure that is where she got the copy of the logo.
