Hi David (and others),

before coming to irrational conclusions, please consider an exemplary benefit of the
GGA:

<< A TFH publication can never match the amount of knowledge and experience found on
this list serve>>

INVOICE A: (taken directly from a Zoo book sales site)

"Geckos der Welt" by Herbert Rosler $55.00
"Bibliography of the Eublepharinae" by Tony Gamble $ 6.95
"Geckos and Pygopods" by Storr et al $25.00
various budget TFH publications overpriced
_____________________________________________________
TOTAL
$86.95 AND overpriced

INVOICE B: (via GGA bookstore for GGA members)

"Geckos der Welt" by H. Rosler AND SIGNED BY ROSLER $27.00
"Bibliography of the Eubelpharinae" by Tony Gamble $ 5.00
"Geckos and Pygopods" by Storr et al $18.00
NO BUDGET TFH BOOKS, article reprints, list serv., 2 journals, chit-chat, advertising
rights on the GGA
website, and an overall feeling you're supporting something worthwhile - priceless
_____________________________________________________________________
TOTAL
   $50.00 and PRICELESS

Net savings (on just three books) by rational reasoning = $36.95 and still PRICELESS

Congratulations Chuck, your little soap box speech has convinced me to NOT
join the GGA. I have no interest in joining an organization who's members
feel they should only share information that is beneficial to the animals we
are supposed to care about with people who "belly up to the table". If you
take it personally that people are using your knowledge without Joining the
GGA maybe you should just stop responding to the questions. Most every
organization offers services to non-members to help promote themselves and
to educate people about their cause. This can eventually lead to more
members. It would be smart for the GGA and it's members (like you) to view
the list-serve as this type of service. How many kids have been helped with
their first gecko by posting questions on this list, for that matter how
many geckos have been saved because a first time keeper was able to find
good information on this list. A TFH publication can never match the amount
of knowledge and experience found on this list serve. The GGA should be
outraged that you are trying to shame people into joining their
organization. I feel the most that will come from your rant is several
people who need the information disseminated here will now be to embarrassed
to ask and their animals will be the ones to suffer from it. If you want
people to join the GGA maybe you should talk about the added benefits of
being a member. Let people know that this list serve is only a start.
Finally, I am personally offended at being called a "free loader", you have
no idea what organizations or causes I support. Small membership fees do
add up after a while. I have been trying to decide if the benefits of
joining the GGA were worth another $30.00, I was pretty close to saying yes.
I also believe it is insulting to the several young people on the list as
well. Not every kid with a gecko has an extra $30.00 to pay for membership.
