I've been taping them to the shelf below the vivarium and put
0.5" risers on the bottom to give some airspace. Their
heat output is more than sufficient for most gex. In plastic
vivaria with 1.25" of play sand the temperature in the hottest spot
is 88-92 during the day.

Not having adhesive is a big plus for me. I have several tanks with
unused heat pads stuck on the bottom and several more I've had to buy 
heaters for.
