Hi-
I was wondering if anyone has any info on the average lifespan of wild phelsuma? I
can't imagine that in the wild it would be very long.
In captivity, I find that they can live 3-5 years with females producing well. After
that they may live a few years longer, but I have observed that they produce very few
viable eggs after that. There are exceptions to the rule, I'm sure but I mean on
average. They also seem to wither and lose weight, even though they eat well and may
live for 2 years or so in their slimmer, but more frail and weathered state.
Also, I am talking mostly of the smaller species.
Has anyone else observed this? And what have you seen in the wild?
Thanks Jason
