There is a breeder in Florida who classify their gecko as a
"Golden Gecko" - these were simply a colour phase of 
leopard gecko. I dont know if this might be what was at the fair?
 
 Also, we were told to feed on similar food to leopard geckos, but have not 
yet seen them eat - it is possible that they only do at night, but even when 
we sit in the room with a night-light on, we see nothing - we've tried brown 
and black crickets, mealworms, waxworms and small locusts.  Any info or 
advice would be much appreciated,

  You might want to try contacting the people you got them off 
explain what is occuring and seeing if they can advise you furthur. 
Get them checked by a reptile vet. If you are offering the correct diet 
- try some "stimulap" maybe it will help to kick start their appetite.
They may be a little stressed & geting used to their surroundings.
