I happen to own two gold(en) geckos.... gekko ulikovski... they are extremely
shy and nocturnal... I've never seen them eat either, but their crickets
rarely last long in the vivarium.  I also feed them a nekton/baby food
mixture frequently... either non-citrus fruit ones or veggie and meat ones.  
They seem to really like that.
I rescued both of them from pet shops and they both seem to be thriving.  
This species has not been known to have a single breeding in captivity and,
therefore, all seen appear to be wc.
