The ambient temp. in the house during the day is probably around 75-78F. I
use a 20G (long) aquarium, so the height of the tank is about 13". I think
that's not very low, is it??? And no, I use normal house-hold bulbs... Well,
actually, the only bulb I got that is as low as 25W is a nocturnal reptile
light, but the rest is just house-hold bulbs.
Anyways, it seems like everyone agrees that it is surface temp. and not
air temp. that counts, so I'll go ahead and change it.

 Thanks!

Hello-
With such high temp readings, I would question the thermometer. A 25W bulb is
hardly enough to bump up ambient temps10 - 20 degrees in a 20 gal long tank.
Try comparing a few thermometers to each other.

Also take into account the behavior of your animal. if it is laying
comfortably under a spot bulb that reads 110f, its probably cooler than that.
(btw, I myself don't place the hidebox under the basking spot)

The temps in the Visoli book are the standard and you should stay close to
them. I have found that leopards can handle both cooler and hotter temps, but
you have to be careful. Even tho they are desert dwellers, they spend the
days in cool burrows.

I'm curious though- with desert temps outside the burrow well over 100F, how
much cooler is it in the burrow?
Increasing the humidity may reduce temps some. What substrate do you use?
Hope this helps-
Jason
