Hello Nathan,
You should check on infection for sure. I have seen this as a somewhat common problem with geckoes that cling to the glass very often.  It has popped up occasionlly in my Phelsuma of mostly the Standings and Giants.  I know exactly what your talking about...and can't clearly explain a cause.  Maybe Julie of Gecko Ranch knows more about this?  I would render a guess that it has more to due to a loss or atrophy of muscle tone at the base of the tail from either dissuse among branches...or some similar reason.  I have seen this in both thin and fat tail geckoes...that is why I am ruling tail girth out as a cause.  Believe it or not...Tokay tails are partially prehensile...and they do use them to wrap around things.  SUGGESTION if you don't already have this:  Do you have logs and or structure other than the glass for the geckoes to cling too?  If not...put in some logs, caves and other cliff like structure to get the geckoes clinging! to some more horizontal areas...it might clear up.  Good luck Nathan...keep us posted.

Regards,

Kenny B.
